Hi, I've been there twice, so I'm not an expert.ut I can tell you that Amsterdam is a city of Sex, Drugs, and (no, not rock and roll Shopping.If you're taking your family, try to find things to do away from downtown. it's too easy to turn the corner and end up on a street of prostitutes. sometimes with many horney, dirty men who seem to forget that every girl is not for sale.t's also easy to go into a "coffee" shop and get stoned just by second hand pot smoke, so be carefull before you take a turn, and before you go into any coffe shops, that is if you have your kids with ya : In fact I'd recommend getting one of those maps and having the hotel guy highlight the areas to avoid.here were quite a few scenes that my wife and I didn't enjoy seeing, so I'm sure that you dont want your family to see. Having said that, there is a ton of culture and history, things to do outside of downtown, One thing I did that was pretty cool was take the tour boat, it takes a few hours, and / or you can do the dinner boat, we did both.It's a great way to see the city and hear some history.f you do that the first day, you'll get alot of ideas on what to do the rest of the time.
