As far as safety goes, I don't know anything about cannibas week so I can only speak of safety in Amsterdam.I think she's just as safe in Amsterdam as any place else.Like all major cities they do have a problem with pickpockets. Before she visits this festival she should secure her extra money, spare credit cards, and passport in a money belt or better yet, the hotel safe.Any tourist is a target for pickpockets, but if I were a pickpocket, I would seek out people who are there for cannibas week.It's easier to let one's guard down when certain influences are at work.
I never felt unsafe in amsterdam when i was there 1 1/2 years ago, and I went to the "coffee" houses. was very impressed with how polite the dutch are to vistors, and almost everyone speaks perfect english Tell you daughter to go and have fun, and enjoy herself. saw a documentry on the Cannabis cup on the sundance channel, it looks like a lot of fun If you have comcast digital its on sundance ondemand
I stayed at hotel de munck (i think thats the spelling its in a very nice area, near the hemp hotel (awesome bar there, a clean coffee house (i think the name was coffee stix and the owners are very helpful.hey do have their own webpage, and breakfast is included.

When I was there, a friend was late gettingback to the hotel.He had to sleep at the front door.Noone bothered him even though there were two "coffee houses" next to the hotel.
A problem that I find with Americans is that many of them get carried away.If they can drink legally, they get drunk.f they can "smoke" legally they get stoned.Very few have control.
