HOLLAND Readers's Tips - Above all, I enjoyed the Anne Franke house.I read the book a long time ago and I always wanted to see it.Even if you haven't read the book it's still a fascinating place to visit. As a Van Gogh fan I really enjoyed the Van Gogh museum. Also there's the Riks Museum (I'm probably spelling that wrong. Some will disagree, but I liked Madame Tussauds. We found a great flea market in Amsterdam, but the locals all told us to watch our wallets there.Be sure to take a canal ride on a beautiful day or evening. I thought 4 days was enough to see the things I really wanted to see.

Certainly the museums mentioned are both wonderful particularly the Rembrandts And the Anne Frank house is an experience that you will never forget.Take the time to really get a feeling of what it must have been like during those horrendous years trapped in those few rooms and what horrors awaited them.It is very moving and you may want to have some time to reflect on that. Take a boat trip along the canals and don't miss the flower markets.A trip into the countryside to see some of the windmills (naturally and maybe a side trip to Edam The circular tram trip is a great way to get around the major tourist sites and not expensive.Be sure to stop in a sidewalk cafe for a cold bier And small Delft pieces are a great gift. There is a shop on the opposite side of the canal from the Anne Frank house that has very reasonable prices, including on their antique pieces.don't recall the name but very easy to find. Enjoy your visit.Amsterdam is a wonderful city and the people are nice. Amsterdam is by far my favorite city that I have venured in. I was there for 5 days and it was plentiful. Reccomendations: Bicycling the town, Ann Frank Haus, Paradisio( a 16th century church turned into a music venue. And stay a night in a hostel, the meeting point, was fun, in the red light district.

Remember the area AROUND Amsterdam. The Keukenhof tulip fields and park are phenomenal until mid May. Last Spring, my daughter and I stayed in Leiden about a 20minute train ride from Amsterdam (frequent trains; it was much less crowded, and the Golden Tulip Hotel, about 500 metres from the train station, was vey clean, quiet, dignified.and had walls decked with musthavebeencopies(of old oil paintings.About a block away, across from the train station, was a great grocery store where we bought food for breakfast.(The hotel breakfast seemed way too expensive.14 euros. From the bus depot next to the train station, one can get buses to many places. We enjoyed Nordveijk, a town on the Atlantic coast, for an afternoon.HUGE beach and interesting shopping area. The hotel was so very conveniently located and so pleasant, I would want to stay there again if I were going to the Netherlands. even if my destination was really Amsterdam.I believe Leiden was Rembrandt's birthplace. The city centre is some blocks away from the train station. My daughter rented a b
